Race # 43 & 44

By: Kasey

This weekend marked my 43rd and 44th race, more races than I've ever done in my life! And boy was I feeling the drain...The oppressive heat and wind certainly didn't help my situation this weekend, where I felt "flat", as in 'no-spunk, no punch'.
Gwen and I raced at the Raisin Hope crit on Saturday, where nobody was willing to make the race fast, so we tried some moves that didn't work because everyone was glued to our wheels. Gwen ended up 2nd in the sprint, with me coming in 5th.
Then yesterday was our Primal Crit, where most of our team volunteered and raced, and where the temp crept up to over 100! Teammate Joan joined us, doing some nice work up front at the beginning-thanks Joan! Gwen and I again were closely tailed by Pro Design. Gwen scored a great prize prime, and I decided to try something different and take a solo flyer at half a lap to go, and I almost had it, but got caught and swallowed up right at the finish line, getting 5th, again. At least Gwen was able to get 3rd, so we had someone on the podium each day!
Looking forward to a restful weekend of mountain biking this coming weekend, and then the Steamboat Stage Race over Labor Day, which is always fun!
Gwen on the podium at Raisin Hope!
